Copyrights

A copyright is a form of protection to the authors of “original works of authorship,” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic and certain other intellectual works, e.g. computer programs. The copyright gives the author of an original work an exclusive right for a certain time period (e.g. in Germany 70 years after the author’s death) in relation to that work, including its publication, distribution and adaptation.

The Internet – especially for copyright holders – is a stroke of luck and curse at the same time. It has never been easier to publish and market copyrights, e.g. literature, songs, movies etc. However, it has also never been easier to copy them.

We advise on how to obtain copyright protection and possibly strengthen the right holder’s position by gaining further protection via other IP rights, such as trademarks, designs etc. In case of unauthorized copying we advise how and what measures can be taken against the infringement.
